Divest from Fossil Fuels

There are a lot of things that are outside of our individual control when it comes to global warming.

One thing you CAN do to help create a more sustainable world... don't give your money to fossil fuels! Check out Go Fossil Free.

Here's a good article about the movement to divest from fossil fuels from Mother Earth News: Fossil Fuel Divestment: A Growing Movement.

Invest wisely,

Sustainable Future: The Green School In Bali

Imagine learning in an environment that's giving its students a relevant, holistic, green education in one of the most amazing environments on the planet (along with being completely off of the power grid!)

That's exactly what John Hardy, and his wife, Cynthia envisioned a few short years ago as they made this dream a reality in Bali, Indonesia...

At the Green School, kids learn in open-air classrooms surrounded by acres of gardens that they tend; they learn to build with bamboo; and meanwhile they're being prepared for traditional British school exams. The school is international -- 20 percent of students are Bali locals, some on scholarship. The centerpiece of the campus is the spiraling Heart of School, which may be called Asia's largest bamboo building.

Learn more about John Hardy, and view his presentation of exactly how the school was created, and the materials used used.

It's truly amazing!

Looking to have some fun with the Internet?

Try to find the Bali Green School using Google Earth!   The beautiful swirling rooftops are unmistakable. Be sure to let me know if you find it, too. :)

Here's to the future - as bright as it will be!

Less Harm, More Harmony~

The Best Solar Use - Creating A Better World!

I was recently in front of a large, friendly group of open-minded people, when I stated my mission...

“I want to help people replace their use of fossil fuels with renewable energy within 10 years or sooner.”

The speaker interrupted me and asked a very simple question: “Why? Why would you want to do that?”

I was surprised, not only by the interruption, but also because in the 35 years I’ve been in the solar industry, no one has ever asked me that question directly.

My reply was inadequate due to my ineptness of thinking fast on my feet, but, after further consideration… you know how it goes… oh I should have said this; I should have said that… here’s my answer:

I want to create a better world, a world that works well (I consider this the best solar energy use):

1) I want to create a world in which all people can bring out the divinity within.

2) There’s something inside of me, from way back that compels me to leave the world a better place than when I got here.  (Did my father instill this in me? “If it’s worth doing, it's worth doing right.”)

The area in which I can make a difference is in our use of energy.

Scientific evidence supports my belief that our current use of energy is causing very serious problems.

We each need to address these problems.

If you wait for someone else to address these problems for you, you might not like the solutions or worse; you might not live long enough to solve the problem. YOU need to address these problems because they are YOUR problems. I can help you. I want to help you.

A Must Read - Hot, Flat and Crowded

If you're looking for a great read that discusses creating a sustainable future...I highly recommend reading Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman.

The World is Flat

You know may his other work, The World is Flat.

Here's a description from Amazon:
"Friedman explains how global warming, rapidly growing populations, and the astonishing expansion of the world’s middle class through globalization have produced a planet that is “hot, flat, and crowded.” Already the earth is being affected in ways that threaten to make it dangerously unstable. In just a few years, it will be too late to fix things--unless the United States steps up now and takes the lead in a worldwide effort to replace our wasteful, inefficient energy practices with a strategy for clean energy, energy efficiency, and conservation that Friedman calls Code Green."

Let me know what you think!

Changing My Mind on a Dime

I used to say solar energy was not good for moving things.
It was good for heating water or making electricity, but not for transportation.
But with this new Electric Hybrid Vehicle... and after checking out www.calcars.org to learn about electric vehicles (EVs), I’ve done a complete 180!
If you want to learn more, I highly recommend you check out:
Who Killed The Electric Car

Who Killed the Electric Car?

After 30 years of being in the solar industry, I was so wrong about what I thought solar energy could do.
Kinda humbling.
So, if I could have a wrong perception about solar energy after 30 years, I guess I can understand that YOU too could have a misconception about solar energy.
I think there’s a lot of people that don’t fully understand solar energy:

    • How it works...
    • What it can, and can’t do…
    • When it could be applicable…
    • Affordable… and
    • A host of other questions.

But there’s a huge belief that solar energy is a good thing… a VERY good thing, in fact.

Go Solar Energy for Life!

Can you believe that my dad, Ward Jr., started installing solar pool heaters here in Southwest Florida over 35 years ago?

Here I am with my dad, and grandpa, in 1978 celebrating the Grand Opening of our new store in Cape Coral - at the very location we're at today! ;)

Back in the day, it wasn't about 'going green' and 'renewable energy' - the gas crisis of the 70's made solar pool heating much more attractive.

I was fortunate enough to be invited by my dad to participate in this wonderful new technology!

Solar pool heating has always been the most economically viable form of solar energy.  It's always made economic sense.

Today, 35 years later, we've expanded our products to include more than just solar pool heat - we also offer:

What's interesting is how the use of solar energy plays a big role in our goals today relating to 'going green' and committing to a sustainable future...

Who knew this is where I'd be today!

I'm really excited that we're taking our business to a new level using the power of the Internet to help people just like you create your energy independence.

I'm extremely proud to introduce our new online initiatives:

I want to thank Charly, and his team at Internet Services Group of Florida, LLC, for helping create & deploy our online connection to you!

It's really important to me that you let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, as well.

Thanks!

Dan
