A Must Read - Hot, Flat and Crowded

If you're looking for a great read that discusses creating a sustainable future...I highly recommend reading Hot, Flat and Crowded by Thomas Friedman.

The World is Flat

You know may his other work, The World is Flat.

Here's a description from Amazon:
"Friedman explains how global warming, rapidly growing populations, and the astonishing expansion of the world’s middle class through globalization have produced a planet that is “hot, flat, and crowded.” Already the earth is being affected in ways that threaten to make it dangerously unstable. In just a few years, it will be too late to fix things--unless the United States steps up now and takes the lead in a worldwide effort to replace our wasteful, inefficient energy practices with a strategy for clean energy, energy efficiency, and conservation that Friedman calls Code Green."

Let me know what you think!

Changing My Mind on a Dime

I used to say solar energy was not good for moving things.
It was good for heating water or making electricity, but not for transportation.
But with this new Electric Hybrid Vehicle... and after checking out www.calcars.org to learn about electric vehicles (EVs), I’ve done a complete 180!
If you want to learn more, I highly recommend you check out:
Who Killed The Electric Car

Who Killed the Electric Car?

After 30 years of being in the solar industry, I was so wrong about what I thought solar energy could do.
Kinda humbling.
So, if I could have a wrong perception about solar energy after 30 years, I guess I can understand that YOU too could have a misconception about solar energy.
I think there’s a lot of people that don’t fully understand solar energy:

    • How it works...
    • What it can, and can’t do…
    • When it could be applicable…
    • Affordable… and
    • A host of other questions.

But there’s a huge belief that solar energy is a good thing… a VERY good thing, in fact.

Go Solar Energy for Life!

Can you believe that my dad, Ward Jr., started installing solar pool heaters here in Southwest Florida over 35 years ago?

Here I am with my dad, and grandpa, in 1978 celebrating the Grand Opening of our new store in Cape Coral - at the very location we're at today! ;)

Back in the day, it wasn't about 'going green' and 'renewable energy' - the gas crisis of the 70's made solar pool heating much more attractive.

I was fortunate enough to be invited by my dad to participate in this wonderful new technology!

Solar pool heating has always been the most economically viable form of solar energy.  It's always made economic sense.

Today, 35 years later, we've expanded our products to include more than just solar pool heat - we also offer:

What's interesting is how the use of solar energy plays a big role in our goals today relating to 'going green' and committing to a sustainable future...

Who knew this is where I'd be today!

I'm really excited that we're taking our business to a new level using the power of the Internet to help people just like you create your energy independence.

I'm extremely proud to introduce our new online initiatives:

I want to thank Charly, and his team at Internet Services Group of Florida, LLC, for helping create & deploy our online connection to you!

It's really important to me that you let me know if you have any questions, comments or suggestions, as well.

Thanks!

Dan

California is Leading the Way!

California Governor Jerry Brown (D) recently made a promise to pursue a new series of goals that will lead the nation in climate change control. These goals are being considered to be some of the most ambitious goals in not only the nation, but also the world! While California has always been a leader in promoting clean energy and putting forth effort to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, they are also known as a leader in producing those same gases. This is why it is such wonderful news to hear that they are pursuing these new climate goals! Here’s to hoping that they are starting a trend that the rest of the nation, nay the world, joins in to participate in decreasing our greenhouse gas emissions! To learn more about this click here

Going Solar for 40 Years!

In the early morning of November 15th, 1975, I closed the door of my apartment (one of a few remaining army barracks of "Fort" Myers) and walked a quarter of a mile to join my father on my first day of work in the solar industry.

He had called me a few days earlier to ask if I wanted to install solar pool heaters with him. I told him I'd sleep on it and call the next day with my decision.

I joined him, not so much to be in the fledgling solar industry, which I thought was pretty cool; nor to save the world from the "evil oil guys", which, in the early 70's was not as clear a mission to me as it is today; but more, to simply get to know my father... he had been absent from my life since I was six. So, I hitchhiked from Orlando, where I was getting some spiritual guidance, to Fort Myers....

Looking back, I'm grateful I was guided to the path of (sun)light. It has been good to me and I have much to be grateful for.

Today, forty years later, my son, Ian, is stepping into the leadership role at Fafco Solar and I'm letting it go. It's a process. I don't know exactly how it will happen, or how it will look, but it's in motion and it's another reason for me to be grateful.

Looking forward, it's obvious the world will be powured by sunlight... and it will be surprising to most how fast it will happen. The solar tsunami is here! (More about this later.)

Enjoy the ride, Ian!
With lots of Love and Light,
Dan
